Though its Android functionality is nice, the X7MkII performs best in its “Pure Music” mode. Activated through Android’s drop-down menu, Pure Music mode bypasses Android’s software decoders (which limit the sampling rate to 48 khz) to use only Fiio’s software and hardware, unlocking the X7MkII’s bit-perfect decoding abilities.
There's lots of like about Fiio's flagship player: Interchangeable amp modules, flexible audio output options, a myriad of app choices through the Google Play store, and sweet sound are the highlights. If you're in the market for an Android-based high-resolution audio player, the X7 Mark II is worth your serious consideration.
The FiiO X7 Mark 2 is a stylishly designed dap with clean modern lines. Choosing the naked, clear case or leather bondage look give one aesthetic options. The sound certainly is high quality and complements a large range of tastes and earphones.
Starting with the build quality, X7mkii is not a one-piece device, being made of a main body, which is continued with an AMP module. Each AMP module has a little wing on the left side, to keep X7mkii's design coherent, as it has a somewhat industrial design, with very fine edges, a volume wheel and nice hardware buttons.
You get a storage of up to 512GB with two microSD card slots. Its feature packed with a new chipset for a Hi-Res sound experience!
There is a thing happening. Cannot measure it. Cannot do anything but marvel at how some music players using the same exact DAC can exhibit a tonality that is so different from another.
With such fervent anticipation, can the X7 II recapture the glory of Fiio’s early flagship players? Let’s find out.
Having recently reviewed the wonderful FiiO X5 3rd gen DAP, I was, to say the least, intrigued to receive their flagship model, the FiiO X7mkII.
Then, there were 3 other slight issues that really annoyed me as a reviewer. To put it into context, when I compare the sound of 2 DAPs, I first ensure that both are volume matched as closely as possible by using a series of test tones and then checking the volume of the sound produced by a set of IEMs. So, when comparing the sound of actual music, I would plug the IEMs into one device, and then press play on both devices. Then, when switching the IEMs to the other device I’d first hit pause on both devices, do the swap, and then hit play again on both devices. This is simply to ensure that when I do the IEM swap, I do so at the exact same position within whichever track I’m listening to at the time.
The star of the last appearances in the FiiO portfolio was of course X7 MKII, I was simply bound to listen and share my impressions with you.
At the $700 range, the design and function need to be near flawless. Well, Mark II of that device is now here, and we can see that Fiio worked very hard since.
It actually also I my personal favorite Fiio DAP design, and I prefer its looks and usability over those of the original X7 and even this new X7ii.
Given the rapid development of DAPs in the last 2 years, it is totally unsurprising to see FiiO launch a revised edition of their original and very successful X7 flagship DAP which launched in late 2015
